SVENSK TEATERUNION - THE SWEDISH CENTRE OF THE ITI
The Swedish Centre of the ITI is the forum for co-operation and information within Swedish theatre and the centre for contact and exchange across borders. The Centre is a member organisation for ninety-eight Swedish institutions and organisations within theatre and dance.

www.scendatabasen.se is a web catalogue in Swedish where you can search for information and data on Swedish theatre productions. It is a project run by Swedish centre of the ITI.

Among other things, the Swedish Centre of the ITI is working actively in launching Swedish drama abroad. A rolling project is updating a catalogue on Contemporary Swedish Drama translated to foreign languages.
Please have a look at www.teaterunionen.se/Pdf/SweDrama07.pdf.

Some other things done in promoting Swedish drama are: an anthology of five Swedish children's and youth plays in English translation, an anthology of five Swedish plays in Russian translation; a publication on News from Swedish Theatre with focus on new Swedish plays. Please contact us for more information about the Swedish Centre of the ITI and the new projects.

The Swedish Centre of the ITI arranges the Swedish Theatre Biennial every second year in collaboration with different regional theatres. The biennial always presents some Swedish plays through readings and offers seminars and meetings, also for interpreters and dramatists. In 2007 the theme of the biennial was New Swedish Plays. Increasingly, guests from abroad are also taking advantage of this unique opportunity to encounter a concentrated version of Swedish theatre in watching performances and taking part of seminars.

What is DramaDirectory?
www.dramadirectory.com is Sweden's largest Internet based play collection and contains in excess of 890 plays from over 410 playwrights and translators. DramaDirectory exists under the auspices of Sveriges Dramatikerförbund (The Swedish Playwrights Union). DramaDirectory functions as a link between playwrights, publisher/agents, theatre groups and theatres. The website also contains Swedish translations of foreign work.

How Does DramaDirectory Operate?
The user can both look for plays in the play library, and read about playwrights and their work under Playwright/Translator. He/she can also find agents, publishers and other information pertaining to the theatre world. Searches in the play library can utilize a variety of criteria; titles, authors, languages available, number of actors or genre. Once you have located the play you can read a synopsis. If you desire then to read the whole play, there are two possibilities to do so. You can either download the entire play text, or you can order a print-on-demand paperback version. A large number of translations of Swedish plays are available on the site. However, not all the translations are accessible as print-on-demand paperback versions.

Reading Plays Directly on the Screen
Theatres and theatre professionals are eligible to apply for an access code. With this access code they are able to read entire play scripts directly on their screens, or print them out themselves. Each time a play is downloaded, the user is registered and this information is sent to the playwright and the agent/publisher. Thus, the playwrights and their agents can see who is showing interest in their work.

Author's Rights
All work included in the play library is protected by laws governing copyright. Permission from the playwright is mandatory before performing any of the plays represented on the site. Permission can be granted by the playwright him/herself or through his/her publisher/agent. In the case of translation, permission must be granted both by the original playwright and by the translator or the publisher/agent. Contact information is found on www.dramadirectory.com.
